Tramadol is a synthetic opioid pain killer drug that is helpful for severe chronic pain. It is beneficial for pain caused by an injury, post-trauma, osteoarthritis, or C Section. Furthermore, it is also available with a brand name of Ultram, Ryzolt, and ConZip. Being an opioid, Tramadol binds to the opioid receptors inside the brain. Afterwards, it decreases the brain’s ability to feel pain.

Moreover, Tramadol is similar to morphine in the way it works. However, it is a prescription medicine and a controlled substance by the FDA.

Tramadol is not NSAID

Tramadol is a member of the drug category known as opioid analgesic. Thus, it binds to the brain receptors and provides pain relief. So, some people believes that Ultram is NSAID (a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug). It is not an NSAID. 

Moreover, Ultram has a useful place in your treatment plan. But, it is critical for you to know about the drug before using it. 

How does Tramadol work for pain

As you know, Ultram attaches to the brain receptors to change your perception of pain. Thus, the brain chemicals, serotonin and norepinephrine remain inside CNS for a more extended period. Some believe that it helps in blocking pain signals in your spinal cord.

Side effects of Tramadol

Apart from positive effects, Ultram may cause dizziness. In this situation, you should avoid driving and running. Side effects are common when you do not follow the medicinal instructions. However, you can prevent these reactions by following the precautions. 

Common side effects of Tramadol include:

  • drowsiness
  • vomiting
  • dizziness
  • lack of energy
  • sweating
  • nausea 
  • headache
  • constipation
  • dry mouth
  • fatigue
  • fever
  • shaking
  • skin rash

These reactions should be mild and wear off within a week. Inform your doctor immediately if they become severe.

Tramadol may interact with other drugs

Tramadol oral tablets may interact with other vitamins, herbs, and drugs. These interactions may alter or improve the effects of Ultram. However, avoid alcohol because it will make you dizzier. 

To help avoid drug interactions, your doctor will manage medications. Although you need to tell your doctor what drugs you are taking along with Ultram. Furthermore, some herbal products may also interact with this drug. So, keep in mind to tell your doctor about these substances.
